VLE Assignments

1). Are practice quiz marks considered for assignments?

  • No. Practice quiz marks are not considered for calculating assignment marks of final result.

  • By answering the practice quizzes after referring a lesson, you can decide, whether you have understood the lesson properly or not.

2). VLE Assignments & the Online Assessments, are these same or not?

  • No.

  • VLE Assignments and Online Assessments are two different evaluation methods used in the BIT Programme.

3). What is an Enhancement Course and Online Assessment?

  • The courses started with EN are Enhancement courses.

  • There are 3 Enhancement courses available in the 1st year syllabus and 2 Enhancement courses available in the 3rd year.

  • All these 5 Enhancement courses are compulsory to be passed to get the Diploma or the Degree. To get a pass for each Enhancement course, 2 components (One hour MCQ paper and Online Assessment) are necessary to pass within the same year. If students apply (with the semester exams) for the Enhancement course paper, the Online Assessment will be activated for two weeks period after the MCQ exam paper, through VLE.

  • 5 Enhancement courses are: EN1101, EN1201, EN1301 of the 1st year and EN5101, EN6502 of the 3rd year.

    4). What is an enhancement course?

    • It is a Non-GPA, but compulsory course. There are five enhancement courses collectively in all three years of BIT. An enhancement course consists of both an online assessment and a written examination during semester examination. You should pass both online assessment and the written examination of the course, in order to successfully complete the course. When you apply and pay for the examinations of the enhancement courses you will be eligible to take the online assessments.

    5).What is an online assessment?

    • Each and every enhancement course consists of an online assessment other than the written examination. It is a compulsory component to pass the course. The online assessment will be published after the written examination.

    6). What is the duration of the online assessment?

    • Online assessment will be available for two weeks and will be given only one attempt.
      Students can access and submit the online assessment during anytime within the given two weeks of time. Exact dates of online assessment will be published in BIT website and the VLE. The students are highly advised to not to wait until the last moment to submit, because network congestion will interrupt the submission.

    7). What is the pass mark of the online assessment?

    • Online assessment will be available for two weeks and will be given only one attempt.
      Students can access and submit the online assessment during anytime within the given two weeks of time. Exact dates of online assessment will be published in BIT website and the VLE. The students are highly advised to not to wait until the last moment to submit, because network congestion will interrupt the submission.

    8). How can I know the result of the online assessment?

    • The result of the online assessment will not be published in the VLE. It will be published in the BIT website as a final examination result of the particular course, at the time of releasing the semester 1 results.

    9).What is an online assignment?

    • There are two online assignments for all courses in first four semesters. Successful completion of the assignment component is compulsory to be eligible for the Diploma in IT and Higher Diploma in IT respectively in year 1 and year 2.

    10). Where can I find the assignments?

    • The assignments are published in the course pages of the relevant courses in VLE.

    11). What is the structure of questions of online assignment?

    • An Assignment can be a set of MCQ questions or piece of practical work to do and submit or upload to your VLE account.

    12). What is the best way of answering questions in Assignments?

    • Proper study of all the relevant teacher’s notes and other relevant resources and trying all practice quizzes and activities prior to the assignment will be the best to answer questions in assignments.

    • Without properly studying; it is really hard to answer the assignment questions.
    • Some conditions are applied & introduced to avoid random guessing.

    • For example, one cannot get any marks by clicking all five choices. Although negative marking scheme is there, the minimum mark for a question is zero. Therefore wrong answers will not affect other questions.

    • Students will be able to see their replies, only soon after attempting the assignment quiz. (We have implemented some controls to avoid bad practices).

    13). What is the criterion to complete the VLE (LMS) assessments satisfactorily for a given year?

    • Students should score at least 40% for each assignment, in order to successfully complete the online assignment component of a course. An assignment has 3 attempts and the highest score will be considered for grading. There are two assignments in a course.

    14). What are 'grades' in assignments?

    • If you have scored at least 40% for each assignment, you will get a pass grade; otherwise you will get a fail grade.

    • An assignment has 3 attempts and the highest score will be considered for grading. (We advise students to try all three attempts irrespective of marks, since it is a good preparation exercise).

    • Please note that you should complete both assignments to obtain your final assignment grade for the course.

    15). How can I know the result of the online assignments?

    • The result of the online assignments will be available in your Gradebook in the VLE. Since you have to score 40% from both assignment 01 and assignment 02 to successfully complete assignment component, the Final Grade of the assignments will be displayed as “FAIL” until you try both assignments. Therefore, please check your final assignment grade in the Gradebook, once you complete both assignments, in order to find out the final result of the assignment component.

    16). We can review our assignments soon after the completion. But when we closed it, there's no option to review it again. Why can't we review our assignment questions more than once?

    • The marks of the assignments are considered to obtain diploma/higher diploma. Therefore if one could review the assignments again and again he might use it in a wrong way which would become a bad practice. Therefore we cannot allow you to review your assignments except immediately after your attempt.

    17). If I have successfully completed the VLE (LMS) assignments, but have to repeat some courses, do I have to re-attempt the VLE (LMS) assignments as well?

    • No, you don’t have to re-do the assignments. However, it would be helpful for you to be prepared for the examination for which you have to pay to access the VLE (LMS).

    18). If I do not complete all the VLE assignments successfully what would be the effect?

    • If the VLE assignments are not completed, you will not be qualified for the Diploma or the Higher Diploma certificates in IT.

    19). If I failed any VLE assignment in a previous year, do I have to pay again to access the VLE related that academic year?

    • No. If the students need the VLE for previous years, it will be activated free of charge on your request. You can repeat your failed assignments without paying.

    20). Can I discuss VLE assignment question in the forums?

    • No, student should not post assignment question (MCQs) directly with possible choices in the discussion forums of relevant courses.

    21). I passed the VLE assignment in the last year. But my subject is repeated. Do I need to re-do the assignment again?

    • No. You need to repeat only the subject.

    22). Can I discuss VLE assignment questions in the forums?

    • No, students should not post assignment questions (MCQs) directly with possible choices in the discussion forums of relevant courses.

    23). What happens when a VLE assignment question is wrong?

    • We have a policy, not to penalize students when a question is wrong. At the same time, students will not be subjected to any discrimination if they show mistakes or make a complaint. It is rarely possible that content or questions in a particular course may be wrong. If you find such errors, please inform the relevant e-facilitator by private messaging via VLE. Please note that it is forbidden to post such assignment inquires in the discussion forums.
